This park has a surface area of roughly 20,000 hectares of natural protected reserve, to which visitors can arrive by Metro Cable, a form of transport that you will only find in Medellin.

In December, the city is covered in thousands of lights of a million different colours, creating the famous Christmas lightning of Rio Medellin, considered by National Geographic as one of the 10 most beautiful in the world.

You will also find in excellent 5 star hotels in Medellin, with the most exquisite restaurants to enjoy the great local and international dishes, like the restaurant Lucia, that offers the best of Tuscany’s traditional Italian food. Gift a hotel, gift time, gift experiences...

To gift experiences has become increasingly more fashionable.  Trips, gastronomic breaks, camping, routes for active tourism or sessions of spa and wellness..... With the busy lifestyle imposed by work, childcare or studies, the few opportunities to enjoy life away from everyday routine, become authentic luxurious moments, which one has to take advantage of, to the maximum and without limits.

Experiences as a couple are of the most versatile and differentiated because the supply and demand are both very high.  Many couples decide to take a few days away from their family obligations, a week together where they can do all the things that due to every day rhythm of life, have to be parked for another occasion, a romantic dinner in a gourmet restaurant, in the afternoon a shopping trip together, go to the theatre or simply relax on a deserted beach...

January and February are the best months to plan a gift-experience to enjoy with your partner at any time of the year.  Saint Valentine's Day, for example, the prices in the tourist sector, are well below the average and it is possible to find offers at hotels in Madrid, Barcelona, including beach hotels in Fuerteventura or Tenerife at an exceptional price.

Although there are predesigned packages of experiences on sale at some of the larger stores, the best thing is to organise personally the gift because this allows you to maximize the personalization of the experience.  Also, if one is flexible regarding dates and destinations and has some patience and a certain flair when using internet, it is possible to find some truly excellent holiday bargains.  The cheapest are normally the hotels in Benidorm, and in general the Costa Blanca but you can also decide to book a four star hotel with spa in Lloret de Mar, from 37 per night, if you book well in advance....
In fact, it is precisely in the month of January that the majority of the booking campaigns start to operate, such as Early Booking in Spain, and with luck you can also find romantic breaks at luxury hotels in Tenerife, or Majorca at cost price.

Book directly on the hotel official web sites, which contrary to popular belief, can result in a discount from between 5 and 20% on the price that can be found on intermediaries sites such as Booking or Expedia, options that are very interesting when booking last minute accommodation.

If the surprise gift is for the other side of the Atlantic, it is possible that the maximum saving will be on the airline tickets rather than the hotel because hotels in Mexico, Santo Domingo, Cuba and in general all the Caribbean, work with three seasons and different requirements to those of the Spanish market. Their principal tourist is from North America and the prices vary according to their holiday calendar.

However, if the journey is booked now for October-November with the whole package of transport-hotel-all inclusive, it is possible to find an interesting offer to spend a week on a paradisiac beach by the sea for little more than 800 per person. The luxury hotels in the Caribbean, for example, have special offers for the winter to travel from January to April. In this case it is possible to enjoy 8 days in an 5 star hotel in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with accommodation in a junior Suite with sea view and all inclusive for approximately 1,000 per person.

The Fergus Style experience

Fergus Hotels is one of the hotel chains that has grown the most in recent months. With a portfolio of hotels centred on beach destinations like Mallorca, Costa Brava or Ibiza, it offers a holiday concept that goes a step further what is normally expected from a hotel chain with its characteristics.

Although the hotel chain has classic hotels in Calella and Pineda del Mar, with a family atmosphere and for all audiences, it has decided to invest in hotels with a very specialized design and for a very particular traveller. The Fergus Style experience is a combination of modernity and the elegance of a city boutique hotel, like the ones we can find in Madrid or Barcelona, but adapted to the requirements of the holiday makers including, terraces, gardens, chill out areas, swimming pools, spa…

Under this new style by Fergus, there are 4 hotels that fall under this category, two in Majorca, a boutique hotel in Santa Ponsa and a Spa hotel in El Arenal, another hotel in Santa Susanna, and the fourth and last in Lloret de Mar. They are all 4 Star superior (except for the latter one, that is a 4 star hotel) and offers rooms at very affordable rates (between 37 euros and 51 euros per night) bearing in mind the type of rooms and its complete services.

One of the most valued and continues to grow in its holiday offer, is the Fergus Cala Blanca Suites, offering 175 rooms with sea views in Costa de la Calma, one of the most exclusive areas of Majorca. With a typical Ibizan style architecture and white walls, it provides services for the whole family and a cove at the end of the swimming pool area.

The hotel has a new design, paying attention to detail, which combines with a complete All Inclusive service that is far away from traditional standards.  Also, as it is perfectly integrated into the beach and that it is a very quiet area, there are hammocks all over the cove, as well as a lively cocktail bar by the sea, where you can enjoy one of the best sunsets in Majorca.

For the low season, the hotel has designed a golf and cycling program geared towards those looking for an active tourism hotel in Majorca any time of the year. The advantages of this Fergus Style is its location, just 5 minutes away from the Golf Club Santa Ponsa, and its spaces specially designed to store golf clubs, bicycles, a laundry service specifically designed for cyclists and a catering, to face the intense sporting days.

Fuerteventura: outstanding destination and hotels for 2014

Travellers are very clear: 2014 is the year to visit Fuerteventura.  The island and in particular, Corralejo, appear amongst the top 10 destinations in the world that are worth visiting, according to the users of Tripadvisor (Destinations On The Ride - Travellers Choice).

The beauty of the coast, the volcanic scenery (the island has 24 volcanos), the majority of which can be visited using the upgraded and well sign posted hiking trails, the spectacular beaches, the sports such as kite surf, the proximity to Lanzarote and the Island of Wolves, are some of the characteristics mentioned by travellers that make Fuerteventura an essential part of travel plans for the next holiday in 2014.

If we compile a list of places to visit in Fuerteventura it is inevitable the appearance of names such as Costa Calma and the peninsular of Jandia, the capital - Puerto del Rosario - with the incredible carnivals, the natural area of Betancuria, the Malpais Grande, Tindaya, Corralejo and the marvellous sand dunes.

Fuerteventura hides unique landscapes beyond the traditional touristic routes and has attractions and proposals of leisure activities for all ages: zoo, water parks, handicraft markets full of local products, nautical schools, marinas, diving and kite surf schools, Spanish language schools and everything that one could imagine to complete a personalized trip, different and full of experiences to be remembered.

Plans in Fuerteventura

To organize excursions and activities in Fuerteventura and achieve the maximum during the holiday, you can consult ideas and the diary of the web site of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura (above all for official acts and events), the selection of leisure plans on the Fuerteventura tourism web site or the complete guide to Fuerteventura leisure and culture, where you can find everything from sporting events to gastronomic recommendations.

One of the classical events that take place in Fuerteventura is the carnival of Puerto del Rosario, ideal to start the year with good rhythm and in summer, the variety of parties, concerts and shows make it difficult to decide which ones to choose.  For us one of the great cultural events that has taken place in Fuerteventura during the last few years, is the Fuerteventura Music Festival, an event which has been celebrated for a decade on the expansive La Concha (El Cotillo) beach at the beginning of July.

Surf classes at the 7 Island school in Corralejo or at Surf Camp in Morro Jable is a perfect plan if you want to experience what it is like to ride the perfect Atlantic waves on a surf board.  There are intensive classes for three days or weekends and there is also a possibility of a one week course complete with accommodation on half board.

Regarding accommodation, Fuerteventura has some of the best beach hotels in Spain, highlighting in particular the establishments in the Jandia peninsula, where the price/quality factor has been finely adjusted above all for those travelling in groups or with the family.

Some of the most recommended hotels in Jandia are the three Iberostar Hotels & Resorts in Fuerteventura.

   *  Fuerteventura Palace - Ideal for couples travelling with or without children.

   *  Playa Gaviotas - Excellent situation next to the Matorral Beach.

   *  Playa Gaviotas Park - Next to the previous hotel but focusing specifically on
children, with specialized services for them.

In the centre of the island, the best option for accommodation is in Puerto del Rosario.
Although the capital is always slightly more expensive, the difference in the price is the amount that can be saved on transport for your movements throughout the city.  A car is not needed when you go out at night or on shopping trips, you do not need to worry about anything.

In the north of Fuerteventura, the ideal area for accommodation is Corralejo.  Outstanding here are the Grandes Playas hotels, of the Atlantis chain, such as the Gran Hotel Bahia Real or the exclusive luxury hotel Barceló Corralejo Bay.

Northern Ibiza: Cala Portinatx

This magical northern area of the north coast of Ibiza, is one of those places that still today, is exempt of the frenetic pace that has struck the capital and other beautiful coves of the island, once a refuge for hippies and today, the centre of international electronic dance music.

Cala Portinatx is a refuge, an oasis of peace in Ibiza where it is increasingly difficult to find a quiet, natural and with a Mediterranean essence to it. Away from the bustle of the capital, Vila, and Sant Antoni or Playa den Bossa, Sant Jordi de Ses Salines, Cala Portinatx remains strong, year after year, as relaxing destination to travel with the whole family without sacrificing intimacy that is always guaranteed in this small Mediterranean island.

The beach is the perfect for swimming spot, especially if one stays at one of the hotels in the sea frontline. From the
rooms overlooking Cala Portinatx, sunsets are a real luxury. The sea is calm, with an ideal temperature to spend hours in the water and the sand is fine and comfortable to lie on it for hours. It is a small in size, but far from being a problem, it gives the place a great charm, despite being constructed and urbanized.

Given the quiet and friendly atmosphere of the whole area, any family accommodation in Portinatx will probably be a good option. Both, hotels and apartments, are usually of high quality and with comfortable services for children. In addition, compared to other parts of the island, staying in Cala Portinatx has the advantage of being steps away from the water park.

Right next to Cala Portinatx there is another small beach with similar characteristics, family atmosphere and easy access, called El Arenal Petit ( the small sand dunes). Both of them have rocky areas where marine life is most active and offers many possibilities for surface diving enthusiasts, and some areas of shade where to seek shelter, most especially in the summer months where the sun heats the island throughout the day.
